Director of the Arthur H. Aufses, Jr., MD Archives and Mount Sinai Records Management Program

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Mount Sinai Health System, New York, NY

November 2021- Present

  • Identifying and establishing goals and objectives of the Aufses Archives and Records Management programs to support the missions of the Mount Sinai Health System and Icahn School of Medicine. 

  • Providing a management role for assigned staff (3 FTE and 1 LTE), leading various personnel activities, including performance evaluations, weekly staff meetings, and team development. Evaluating staff career development plans through periodic reviews and provides mentoring to improve staff effectiveness and skills. 

  • Co-Chair – Woman's Hospital Casebooks and J. Marion Sims Legacy committee, leading 13 of the most senior leaders to discuss, review, consult, determine policies, plan course of action, and determine institutional responsibility with Chair Emeritus of the Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science department. Reporting to the Dean of the Medical School. 

  • Directing “Preserving Access to Senior Leadership records” project funded by the CEO’s office. Brought on Project Archivist through agency to describe 24 collections, totaling 447 linear feet. Presented to Mount Sinai Health System Board of Trustees’ September, 2023 meeting. 

  • Supporting the Records Manager to ensure the creation, management, scheduled retention, and appropriate disposition, including permanent retention of comprehensive, reliable, and authentic archival records. 

  • Acquiring, preserving, and maintaining intellectual control over Mount Sinai’s historical records, regardless of format, using an online archival management system and ensure these tools adhere to archival and IT best practices for access and security. Providing reference services about Mount Sinai history to internal and outside researchers. 

  • Managing archival records that are in a digital format and develop a digital-forward archival strategy. Current state includes a web archiving component, as well as a back-end digital preservation system. 

  • Providing expertise and advice to the organization to maintain records compliance and promote efficiencies through the use of the Records Management and Archives programs.

  • Championing the programs to senior management to heighten their awareness of information management as a key business function. 

  • Planning and implementing all outreach programs for the Aufses Archives as a foundation for teaching and discovery, including creating exhibitions, writing articles, blog and social media posts, and making presentations on Mount Sinai history. 

  • Developing appropriate metrics and creates periodic reports related to the Archives and Records Management programs. 

  • Planning for and managing the process for acquiring goods and services needed by the Records and Archives programs, including specialized software and hardware needs. 



Museum Archivist

  • Directed the Museum’s historical records as the sole Archivist

  • Answered over 500 reference requests annually

  • Assisted, scheduled, and supervised over 100 research appointments per year (pre-pandemic)

  • Updated departmental standards, policies, and procedures

  • Devised and ran two teacher workshops Native Americans in New York with Brooklyn Public Library

  • Contributed 1/3 of exhibition materials to Jeffrey Gibson: When Fire Is Applied to a Stone It Cracks, consulted with the Native American Nations depicted in materials to implement the Protocols for Native American Archival Materials

  • Piloted “Archives as Raw History” program for First Saturdays, selecting and displaying relevant materials for the public to browse in order to change the paradigm of archival research

  • Digitized and ingested 200+ videos. Created and continually updating workflows

  • Managed budget

  • Co-wrote, provided visual material, and narrated A Year at the Museum: Our Visionary Past video describing the Museum’s history

  • Launched clothing line inspired by Archives ephemera in collaboration with Merchandising and streetwear brand Only NY

  • Facilitated Archives loans to external organizations

  • Co-curated and installed one case of archival materials in Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power exhibition

  • Represented Brooklyn Museum Libraries and Archives as one of the New York Art Resources Consortium (NYARC) Directors

  • Interviewed, hired, and supervised NYARC Kress Fellow for Reader Services

  • Member of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access committee and Institutional History, Collecting Practices, and Provenance committee

  • Spearheaded two Pop-Up Libraries for exhibitions: One: Xu Bing in collaboration with Brooklyn Public Library and Frida Kahlo: Appearances Can Be Deceiving with Kress Fellow

  • Worked with staff to overhaul Archives representation on the Museum website:

    • More than doubled archives collections represented on website

    • Changed “Finding Aids” page to “Archives Collections,” providing more explanatory and educational language that raises awareness and promotes equity of access to the historic record

    • Added Collection Level records of nine unprocessed collections

    • Made new page for Archives Citations, which publicly listed the names of all of the collections for the first time
